KUCHING: Sarawakians should be proud that Sarawak is now having the status of a region, said Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi.

Julaihi added that Sarawak is no longer considered a state within Malaysia as a result of the recognition of the status and urged the people to stop using state for Sarawak.

“I believe we have all heard that Sarawak is no longer a state, but rather a region.

“This means we are free to use the word ‘Sarawak Region’ now because on January 13 Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi openly recognised Sarawak as a region.

“And I think this is something we should be proud of,” he said.

He made this remark in his speech today at the launching ceremony of Sarawak’s first real estate market application, Property Axis held at Borneo Kuching Convention Centre (BCCK) here.

In a related development, he said that Sarawakians should be proud of their political stability, stating that it is essential to the region’s ability to achieve its vision of becoming a developed and high-income country by 2030.

“Sarawak’s development is now on the right track, and it is in line with our Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS).

“Our development is accelerating, and with Sarawak’s political stability, we should be able to complete our objectives.”
