SERIAN: Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus has appealed to the State Utilities Ministry to supply power connection and clean and treated water to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Merakai.

“I appeal to its minister to supply both utilities to the school here because they still use the river and rain as a source of water as well as generators for their power supply,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony of the Merakai utility project Serian division here today.

Addressing the impact of Covid-19 on digital services, he urged the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and related agencies to look into their telecommunication and internet capacity infrastructure in Kampung Merakai.

“It is important because broadband facilities or telephone services have become a basic facility in the world today, especially during Covid-19.

“I hope that other related agencies too, can take note of the needs of the residents of the village (Kampung Merakai) including sports facilities as well as agricultural activities,” he added.

On 2021 projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for the Bukit Semuja area, he said the proposal to upgrade its agricultural road has been submitted to the state government.

“For the record, Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) had allocated RM100,000 to upgrade our church here.

“So, let us all pray that our application for the road upgrade will be approved, but it only can be realised if the people remains to give the ‘seat’,” he added.
