KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition partners are being reconciliatory yet accommodative.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan said this to New Sarawak Tribune on Transportation Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil’s decision to leave Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) much too soon even after the party’s rebranding make an impact which received mix reactions from both the public and politicians.

“However, almost immediately, and almost all GPS partners comprising Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) are offering reconciliatory and accommodative remarks for Dr Jerip to enter into the coalition although there are certain steps and formalities which need to be ascertained first.

“If we are to go by the statements issued by the respective coalition partners, it looks like the offers are far too many than what is asked of Dr Jerip’s re-entry into the coalition,” he pointed out.

Snowdan also reiterated that if these open gestures of goodwill and reconciliation were to materialise, it augurs well for Sarawak politics to move forward in one voice in her pursuit to safeguard her rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“It is a known fact that in Sarawak where infrastructures such as roads, clean water supply and health clinics are still lacking, it is imperative for any people’s representative to be associated with a political platform or entity that has the capacity to provide the same to ensure continuity in development.

“And for Dr Jerip, that platform is none other than GPS which is the ruling state government,” he said.

Snowdan added that PRS is one of the largest Dayak-based component parties in the GPS coalition.

“PRS is willing to open its door and welcome Dr Jerip as part of the family.

“All along, GPS has always subscribed to reconciliation, politics of development and not confrontation.

“Let it be known too that one of the reasons why he (Dr Jerips) left PSB is for the sake of the Bidayuh community and unity. If unity is his real concern, then we see no reason to doubt it,” he opined.
