KUCHING: The surveying of Native Customary Rights Land (NCR) and State land should be prioritised to increase the area of surveyed lands.

The process is however slowed down by having to publish the title deeds under Section 18 of the State Land Code which incur more expenses.

“Despite funds (RM36 million) allocated by the Federal government, the surveying works are still moving slowly.

“Hence, the Supreme Council of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) would like to suggest that longhouses be surveyed in blocks instead of by individual longhouse.

“For example, 10 longhouses in an area can be made into a block. This block of land will then be classified as NCR land. Should the 10 longhouses claim a bigger area than the others, they can negotiate between themselves at a later time,” said PRS president, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing in a press conference after chairing PRS Supreme Council Meeting at PRS Headquarters here, yesterday.

Dr Masing who is also Deputy Chief Minister also suggested that the funds given by the Federal government be used to carry out the survey works efficiently which should done within this year.

“This is the main concern of PRS as a Dayak party,” he pointed out.

Also present were PRS Deputy President, Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun and Vice Presidents, Majang Renggie, Masir Kujat, Datuk John Sikie Tayai and Supreme Council members of the party.
