KUCHING: With the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration approaching, the public have been urged to be more vigilant.

Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said extra attention must be given at all times, especially in the kitchen.

“After two years of pandemic, where we were unable to celebrate Hari Raya, people are now more excited to be able to celebrate the festive season, but please do not be forget the 3Ls (Lupa, Leka dan Lalai), especially in the kitchen, that may lead to fire incidents.

“I would like to remind the women who are busy with Hari Raya preparations to be more careful as I am pretty sure all of us would like to celebrate safely with smiles instead of tears on our faces,” she urged when officiating at a fire safety campaign at Mydin Supermarket, Vista Tunku Petra Jaya here on Wednesday (April 20).

Fatimah also pointed out that parents and guardians must monitor their children at all times. “It is important to teach our children fire safety and ways to prevent fires from happening.”

Additionally, she advised the public to have at least one fire extinguisher at home for emergency purposes.

“Every household should invest in at least one fire extinguisher at home. A fire extinguisher is around RM120 to RM150 and with that amount of investment, it will be able to save our life and our belongings.”
