Public speaking competition at Pustaka Miri Auditorium

MIRI : Speak Up! World Oceans Day Public Speaking Competition will be held tomorrow at Pustaka Miri Auditorium.

The event is held in conjunction with World Oceans Day (WOD) 2017 celebration.

The competition will take place at 1.00pm and is open to secondary school students from Form 1 to Form 5.

The winner will be awarded with a trophy and RM150.00 cash, 1st runner up will also receive a trophy and RM100.00 cash, while the 2nd runner up will receive a trophy and RM50.00 cash.

All contestants will be awarded with a certificate of participation.

Contestants are to prepare their own speech that touches on the theme ‘World’s Oceans Day – Our Oceans, Our Future’.

A panel of juries will be judging according to the criteria for the competition which are based on three aspects – content, delivery or presentation and language.

Speak Up! World Oceans Day Public Speaking Competition is one of the activities organized by the Miri WOD 2017 Working Committee comprising of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak-Miri, Miri City Council, Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Chapter, Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Miri, Society of English Writers Northern Zone (SOSWE) and Miri Toastmasters Club.

The celebration started off with ‘Save the Ocean – Let’s Clean Up’ beach cleaning at Marina Bay on 1 July recently which collected more than 350kg of rubbish, and was followed by Miri’s WOD Symposium on 2 July 2017 held in Pustaka Negeri Sarawak-Miri.

World Oceans Day is celebrated globally, to remind everyone of the major role that oceans play in our daily lives.  United Nations (UN) aims to unite the entire world on a project for the sustainable management of oceans.
