MIRI: Soon, visitors at Canada Hill will have access to a public toilet there.

Assistant Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting visited Canada Hill yesterday to check the progress of construction work on the toilet.

He was happy to know that the toilet was about 95 per cent completed and would be ready on Jan 15.

Ting, who is also Piasau assemblyman-elect, said, “It was scheduled to be completed on Dec 13 last year but faced some delays.”

He pointed out that Canada Hill was a tourist spot that offered visitors many activities.

The Assistant Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts added, “On weekends, there are a lot of people here because the hill has a hotel and spots for people to exercise or spend their leisure time.

“We also have a historical landmark, the Grand Old Lady, the first commercially viable oil well discovered in Miri in 1910, and the Petroleum Museum where people can learn more about the history of oil in Sarawak.”

Ting also talked about turning other places into tourist spots. For instance, those with interesting rock formations could be turned into geo parks.

“At these geo parks, researchers, scientists, students or even the public can come to learn more about the resources we had in the past,” he added.
