KUCHING: The Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA) is urging the public to be more aware of crimes in their area.

Its chairman Datuk Dr John Lau Pang Heng said everyone is responsible in taking precautions to prevent crimes in their area.

“We as a society should carry out the initiative of not allowing crime to happen as a result of our own negligence.

“If we take preventive measures, no criminal activity will occur and at the same time, we must also cooperate with the police,” he said when met by the media during a police community programme with the Batu 7 Jalan Penrissen Kuching Community Association at a restaurant at Kota Sentosa here.

At the programme, counters for senior citizens to fill out the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) application form were also opened for the local community.

On the KGC counter, Lau said that it was open to help members of the Kota Sentosa community who are 60 years old and above to fill out the application forms.

He added that a similar programme would be held on February 23 at a restaurant in BDC, Stampin.

“The upcoming programme is different from the others in which we will distribute crime prevention pamphlets and invite people to fill out the KGC forms,” he said.
