KUCHING: Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian, who is also the President of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), said yesterday Pujut state seat belonged to the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties.

“Whatever happens, the basic Barisan Nasional (BN) principle must be at play to ensure unity and strength,” said Sim when asked on the candidate for Pujut should there be a by-election after the handing over of a cheque at the Sarawak Turf Club here yesterday morning.

Jackson Lim, General Manager of Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd, presented a cheque to Sim, who received it on behalf of STEC Kidney Foundation. Dr. Sim is the President of the Board of Governors.

DAP Pujut State Assemblyman, Dr. Ting Tiong Choon was disqualified after Second Finance Minister and International Trade and E-Commerce Minister, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, tabled a motion to have him dismissed under Article 17(1)(g) of the State Constitution for voluntarily acquiring citizenship outside Malaysia.

Sim warned that if the BN principle was broken during the coming 14th General Election, BN would be like Pakatan Harapan and there would be confusion in the allocation of seats.

“Thus, I am inviting United People’s Party (UPP) and Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh to come back to SUPP,” he said.

“Under the BN principle, only component parties get allocated seats. If Wong wants a merger or collaboration whatever you call it, just come back. But we should not talk about sharing seats as this seems to be playing into the unseen hand of a third party,” added Sim.
