BAU: Continues efforts will be made to develop the Muslim community, with emphasis on acquiring knowledge.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said it is important for Muslims in the state to have harmony in their lives, when speaking at the ‘Ziarah Perdana’ (premier visit) programme in Kampung Duyoh here on Saturday.

The programme was held in conjunction with the pearl jubilee celebration of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to the Jagoi zone, Kampung Duyoh Bau.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), explained that Muslims in the state must also always maintain good behaviour and give priority to harmony.

“We need to always be patient and maintain a close relationship with others.

“Racial harmony is an important aspect that needs to be defended because Sarawak is an example of a state of unity,” he said.

According to him, involvement in the economic field is also a matter that needs to be given attention.

“No matter what we do, what is important is that it must be done effectively and consistently.

“If we work in agriculture, we can work with the relevant agencies to adopt a more modern way of working so that we can reach a wider market,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman said Unit Saudara Kita (USK) has many programmes and approaches to help the Muslim community.

“We can hold various activities which can foster ties among us,” said Dr Abdul Rahman.

Also present was Jais director Khalidi Ibrahim.
