KUCHING: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the interim Education Minister has been urged to ensure that the right education policies are in place with his past experience as education minister in 1974.
Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) president Macky Joseph said this when commenting on the recent announcement on Jan 10 whereby Dr Mahathir is appointed as the interim education minister.
“We hope that when the right policies are in place, it would be able to improve the education system.
“In terms of classroom experience in which learning takes place, it should be enhanced with today’s technologies,” he said, adding that schools needed to have access to high-speed Internet.
He added that Dr Mahathir also needs to see that school infrastructure, especially in Sarawak, need to be adequate enough to produce a conducive learning environment for students and teachers.
