KUCHING: The Finance Ministry will soon hold a discussion with the Sarawak government to review the allocation of the special grant under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution (FC).

The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS)  reported on Thursday (March 10) that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili had during the current parliamentary sitting session said this was one of the federal government’s efforts to restore Sarawak’s rights in line with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Besides that, a special council meeting on MA63 will be held on March 14 to discuss other matters,” said Dr Maximus in response to a question from Serian MP Datuk Seri Dr Richard Riot Jaem during question-and-answer time.

Among the matters to be discussed are land matters as well as representation of power for environmental and human resource matters.

“All these are ongoing efforts as a continuation of previous demands such as the handover of regulatory powers on gas distribution, strengthening of deep sea fisheries licensing, and the gazettement of the Constitution (Amendment) Act 2022 [Act A1642] which includes amendments to Article 1 (2), 160 (2), 161A (6) and (7) of the FC.
