KUCHING: Tunku Putra-HELP School will play a significant role in raising the benchmark of educational excellence for private and international education here in Sarawak, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“With the diversity of expertise and experiences inherent in the three strong partners (HELP Education Group, Ibraco Bhd and Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd), Tunku Putra-HELP will certainly be a success story.

“Students of Tunku Putra-HELP will be in steady hands as the school empowers them to embrace Industrial Revolution 4.0,” he said in his speech delivered by Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong at the launch of Tunku Putra-HELP School at the NorthBank, Tabuan Jaya yesterday.

He further stated that with the expansion of lifestyle and a liveable environment, Kuching will attract foreign students from Asean and Asian countries.

“I foresee our city developing into a popular educational and digital hub that attracts students from neighbouring countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Korea etc, offering affordable and high quality education,” he added.

Sarawak Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who also spoke at the launch, said the school will complement the growing development in both Kota Samarahan and Kuching.

He added that while the school’s location does not look attractive now, he believed that in five years’ time the area will be part of growing Samarahan and Muara Tuang.

“I have a feeling that Asajaya and Muara Tuang will see this particular school here as one that is more or less waiting for them to exploit and take opportunity for their children,” he said.

He pointed out that given a little more time, it will attract Serian folk where the Bidayuh and Chinese are known for their huge interest in their development via quality education.

Among those present were Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister cum Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Tunku Putra-HELP School Board of Governors chairman Datuk Syed Ahmad Alwee Alsree; HELP University co-founder, vice-chancellor and president Datuk Prof Dr Paul Chan; HELP Education Group chief executive officer Datin Chan-Low Kam Yoke; Ibraco Bhd managing director Datuk Chew Chiaw Han; and Southern Capital Group Pte Ltd chairman Tan Sri Tan Teong Hean.
