KUCHING: Sarawak needs the latest technology to provide international standard healthcare to the public in line with current developments, says Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The Deputy Premier said the Sarawak government supported the initiative of Timberland Medical Center (TMC) in applying the latest equipment technology in their services.

“After 28 years of providing medical services to Sarawakians, TMC has saved so many lives.

“I am sure they have provided services to hundreds and thousands of people that have benefitted from TMC,” he told a press conference after launching a new digital flat panel Angiography system at TMC today.

The Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government added that heart disease was the number one non-communicable disease in Sarawak.

In relation to the Angiography and Angioplasty system, Dr Sim said the equipment was essential in an effort to provide quality services to patients.

“A blocked artery is very dangerous, especially if it prevents one of the body’s most important organs, such as the heart, brain, or kidneys, from receiving oxygen.

“Meanwhile, angioplasty is a procedure that opens blocked coronary arteries caused by coronary artery disease, restoring blood flow to the heart muscle without the need for open heart surgery.”

Therefore, he stressed the importance of the use of the latest equipment such as Angiography and Angioplasty system in Sarawak.
