KUCHING: Quick action from neighbours saved a single-storey terrace house from being completely destroyed by fire in Taman Serapi Jaya, Matang here today (Nov 28).
The fire, which broke out around 1 pm when no one was home, was largely contained by the neighbours before firefighters arrived.
A Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson reported that Petra Jaya station’s firefighters, located 17 km away, were dispatched to the scene for firefighting efforts.
However, upon arrival, they found that the neighbours had already extinguished the fire, which had caused damage to about 30 per cent of a room.
The fire team conducted thorough overhaul operations to eliminate any remaining embers, ensuring the area’s safety. The operation was completed at 1.58 pm.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
