Quick police action nets Niah armed robbery suspect

MIRI: Less than two hours after he committed armed robbery at a workers quarters in Sungai Tangap, Niah near here, police have arrested the suspect.

The suspect – a 35-year-old man – was picked up at a camp in Sungai Tangap, Niah, Miri-Bintulu road at 8am on Saturday.

According to sources, the suspect had gone to a workers quarters in Sungai Tangap, Niah and robbed a Bangladeshi.

The suspect was armed with a machete.

The victim, 43, was unharmed in the 6.20am incident.

“The suspect was picked up from a Pan Borneo camp in Sungai Tangap, Niah, Miri-Bintulu road,” said Miri OCPD ACP Lim Meng Seah yesterday.

During the robbery, the suspect had threatened to behead the victim if he refused to comply with his demands.

Fearing for his safety, the victim handed over RM200 and a cellphone – total loss is estimated at about RM500.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is working in the same estate as the victim.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 and 397 of the Penal Code.
