KUCHING: The folk of Kampung Mentu Pondok in Serian are not worried about their collapsed bridge anymore as it has been swiftly addressed by the authorities.
Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said the Public Works Department (JKR) has appointed a contractor to repair the bridge.
“This morning I rushed to Kampung Mentu Pondok after the the bridge that connects them to Kampung Mentu Tapuh collapsed following heavy rain the day before.
“The JKR has appointed a contractor to start the repair and the bridge is expected to be usable by light vehicles starting this evening,” he said in a Facebook post last Thursday (July 15).
The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to East Asia thanked the JKR for getting the bridge repaired promptly.
“I express my appreciation and thanks to the Tebedu district officer, Serian JKR engineer, and the engineer from Serian’s Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID) for addressing the problem quickly,” he said.
Present during the MP’s visit to the site were Tebedu district officer Joseph Liaw, representatives of JKR and DID and Kampung Mentu Pondok village head Gandan Banteng.
