BINTULU: Swift action by the residents in RPR Sibiyu here prevented a fire from destroying a vehicle yesterday.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, an emergency call regarding the incident was received around 1.25pm and a team of firefighters were sent to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found that the fire had destroyed the vehicle’s back seats, fuel tank and bonnet.

It was reported that the fire was believed to have been caused by a spark in the oil tank while the owner was repairing the oil pump.

Residents nearby acted swiftly to extinguish the fire by using nearby water pipes.

Firefighters only monitored the situation and gathered information before heading back to their station at 1.50pm.
