KUCHING: The Ministry of Works has been told to speed up construction work along Jalan Tun Razak here.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing said construction work at the Jalan Tun Razak-Jalan Foochow junction had caused massive traffic jam for the past three months.

“KKR (Works Ministry) is taking their sweet time in doing their work,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

He advised the Works Ministry to hasten work because “Jalan Tun Razak is one of the main arteries for Kuching traffic.”

On Aug 29, Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak in a statement said that it had commenced major repair work at Jalan Tun Razak-Jalan Foochow junction by using joint concrete pavement method (rigid pavement).

The statement said work commenced since Aug 8 and it was a federal funded project undertaken by the federal road maintenance concessionaire DAL HCM Sdn Bhd.  On Sept 27, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong said the Jalan Tun Razak-Jalan Foochow road upgrading work was divided into five stages and expected to be completed by mid-November this year.
