MUKAH:  Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration here may be less joyful and colourful this year due to the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

People here still exercise caution even though this district is categorised as green zone.

The Muslim community here certainly is making preparation to usher in the coming Aidilfitri but the scale of the celebration might be not as it used to be.

Kampung Sungai Ragei/Sungai Pegei ketua kaum Mohamad Kasim, 71, like all other Muslims, is very aware of the MCO and the threat the Covid1-19 virus is posing.

He said his preparation for the coming Aidilfitri would not be like before given the restrictions.

“I may spend less for the celebration this year because I am expecting fewer visitors. I think it’s all for the immediate family members this year.

“Nevertheless, other visitors are welcome too, but the number may be less compared to before,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

According to Mohamad kassim, who is also an amil (entrusted to collect tithe), everyone has to follow the standard operating procedures (SOP) that includes not allowing more than 20 people at any one gathering.

For restaurant operator, Mohamed Baseer Nawabdeen, 40, he said his family would celebrate Aidilfitri accordingly because his business was also affected by the MCO.

“As you can see, we do not earn much during the MCO, so we have to be prudent in our spending,” he said.

Eatery outlet owner Maryam Rose also voiced the same feeling, saying her family would celebrate Aidilftri moderately this year because her business was also affected by MCO.

“The MCO really affects our source of income, so we have to spend within our means,” she added.
