KUCHING: The Rabies in Borneo Conference 2022 (RIB 2022) scheduled for Sept 27-28 will be held in its physical form to provide delegates with a better conference experience.
The conference which is being jointly organised by Place Borneo and Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS) will be the inaugural congregation of experts in the prevention of rabies in Borneo.
Emulating Rabies in the Americas (RITA) and Rabies in West Africa (RIWA), the RIB aims to be the authoritative voice in the prevention and control of rabies in the community.
“DVSS aims for Sarawak to be rabies free by the year 2025 and the RIB is one of the steps toward that goal.
“The RIB will bring together international and local experts as well as practitioners to create a platform of knowledge transfer and exchange.
“For the inaugural RIB, the aim is to unpack two approaches of rabies prevention namely the scientific (medical and veterinary) method and community participation,” it said.
Apart from supporting the government’s goal of rabies eradication by 2025, the objectives of RIB include providing a knowledge exchange platform for relevant parties to learn more on rabies surveillance, prevention, and control as well as to increase awareness of veterinary care, vaccination, and control.
The other objective is engaging community involvement in rabies eradication efforts by creating the awareness of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the authority efforts of stray management.
The conference will also provide networking opportunity and experience sharing hub including conversation to discuss the challenges and strategies to be met.
