Ragad donates RM30,000 to three welfare bodies

KUCHING: Wife of the Head of State, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Ragad Kurdi Taib yesterday personally donated RM30,000 to three welfare bodies during the closing of Wonder Women Fun Run 2017 held at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building.

The three welfare bodies, namely, the Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institutes (SFWI) Care and Share Fund, Sarawak Breast Cancer Support Group, and Sarawak Pink Ribbon Support Group each received RM10,000.

About 750 people joined the fun run which was divided into two categories, namely, 3.5 Km and 5.5 Km.

Ragad also joined the 1.5-km fun run.

Meanwhile, the 5.5-km run was flagged off by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri while the 3.5-km run was flagged off by Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah.

Before the Wonder Women Fun Run 2017 started at 6.30am, the participants warmed up with a Zumba dance led by the UiTM Sarawak zumba team.

The event was supported by corporate bodies and agencies such as Serapi Garden, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Lea Centre, UiTM Sarawak, Merdeka Palace Hotel, Nestle and Indocafe.

Meanwhile, Fatimah, in her closing speech, said the theme for this year’s State-level Women’s Day celebration would be “Sarawak Women in Sport”.

She invited the public to turn up for the event to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on 26 August in sportswear.

“The annual celebration this year will recognise the achievements of Sarawak women who have done well in sports over the years,” said Fatimah.
