KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib has expressed her condolences to the family of the late former Head of State Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng.

“Our deepest condolences to the family of Tun Pehin Sri Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin on the passing of our beloved Tun at 11.45pm last night.

“Praying to Allah the Almighty to rest (the late Tun Salahuddin’s) soul in peace and grant his family patience,” she said in a post on her official Instagram page on Saturday (Jan 29).

“Born in 1921 at Kampung Nangka Sibu, Tun Salahuddin served as the third Yang di-Pertua from 1977 to 1981 and as the sixth Yang di-Pertua from 2001 to 2014,” she said.

She noted that after the Japanese occupation, Salahuddin had worked as a municipal inspector under the British Colonial administration and continued his public service under the National Registration Department (NRD) and the Public Works Department (JKR).

She said Salahuddin had also helped to form Barisan Pemuda Sarawak and Barisan Rakyat Jati Sarawak (BARJASA).

“During the years preceding the formation of Malaysia, the late Tun Salahuddin acted as the representative of the Melanau community to the Cobbold Commision,” said Ragad.
