Ragad hands out more food baskets to the needy

KUCHING: Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib, wife of the Head of State Tun Pehin Abdul Taib Mahmud, recently donated food baskets to 21 representatives of the recipients in the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) at a ceremony held at the MBKS building on Sunday (Sept 5).

The event was part of the “Kamek Prihatin” programme, a collaboration between Ragad Foundation and Sarawak National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) to help the needy withstand the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Two hundred recipients benefited from the food baskets which consisted of rice, sugar and some other basic necessities. They consisted of senior citizens, the disabled and those in the B40 income group.

Accompanying Ragad at the ceremony were Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, chief executive officer of Ragad Foundation Datuk Riffai Husain, MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and other guests of honour.

Meanwhile, Batu Kitang assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang thanked Ragad for distributing food aid to the needy in his constituency.

“It was an honour to receive her when she donated the food aid to the less fortunate in Batu Kitang on Saturday (Sept 4) via the Ragad Foundation.

“The recipients were simply overwhelmed by her presence,” said Lo in a statement on Sunday (Sept 5).

On behalf of the recipients and residents of Batu Kitang constituency, he thanked Ragad for her generosity during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Sept 4, 20 recipients received the food aid through the ‘Kamek Prihatin’ programme.

The food aid was handed over to senior citizens, the disabled, and those in the B40 income group during a ceremony held at SJK Chung Hua Batu 10 Basketball Hall, Kota Padawan.

Lo also visited the Blood Donation @ Blood Bank Centre programme at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Besides observing the programme, he met the blood donors, organisers and medical staff at the centre.
