MUKAH: Police here seized 214 cartons of suspected duty-not-paid beers worth over RM35,000 in a joint operation codenamed ‘Op Kontraban’ on Wednesday (Jan 18).

Acting on a tip-off, Mukah police together with Bintulu Marine Police raided a house along Jalan Pam Stesen Lama and found two locked stores.

Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias in a statement, said the teams managed to find the cartons of beer in the stores.

“During the raid, the house was empty and no one appeared to claim the beers.

“The beers valued around RM35,321.30, were later seized and taken to the Mukah police headquarters (IPD),” he said.

The seized items were then handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for further actions.

Rizal pointed out that the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
