Raids net three women for illegal gambling

Three women were arrested in three different locations for illegal online gambling activities during an anti-gambling operation on Tuesday.

PADAWAN: Three women were arrested in three different locations for illegal online gambling during an anti-gambling operation codenamed ‘Ops Dadu’.

Padawan police chief, Supt Aidil Bolhassan, said the three suspects comprised two locals and one Indonesian aged between 18 and 36.

The first to be apprehended was the Indonesian woman, aged 33. She was detained in a Mile 9 premises at 12.15pm on Tuesday (Dec 22).

Aidil stated that members of the police team were instructed to use a special cutter to cut the lock in order to enter the premises upon the suspect’s refusal to cooperate.

“A Mi-branded smartphone and RM415 cash were also seized from her.

“The suspect admitted to have been involved in online gambling activities for almost a month,” the local police chief said in a statement.

In the second raid conducted at a coffeeshop in Mile 13, Jalan Kuching-Serian at 1.54pm also on Tuesday, police arrested a 36-year-old woman.

A Vivo-branded smartphone, RM190 cash and a paper with numbers suspected to be the IDs and passwords for online gambling were seized from her.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old woman was arrested in the last raid conducted at a shop-lot in Mile 10, Jalan Penrissen around 3.30pm.

Seized from here were a Vipro-branded smartphone and cash amounting to RM365 plus a piece of paper with numbers written on it.
