KUCHING: A new event known as Rainforest in the City which ended on Wednesday night marked its milestone with more than 10,000 attendees.

The attendees who came with their families and friends were simply amazed by the new event which featured gorgeous light installations and music performances.

According to project manager for the event, Dalila Othman, the event was initially to be held for 17 days but had to be reduced to 10 days as it was being held for the first time.

“The event is the first of its kind in Sarawak where locals can experience immersive installations and music shows. Throughout the 10 days, the rainforest experience is brought to people in the city, augmented with music and LED lights,” she told New Sarawak Tribune at Reservoir Park, the venue of the event, on Wednesday.

One of the major attractions, “Tunnel of Life” is a 74-foot long structure resembling a tunnel decked with sparkling purple lights at the centre.

The tunnel had captivated visitors to take their photographs among the array of LED lights as one of best experiences of the visitors. A visitor, Radzi Abdul Karim said he was amazed with the set up of the LED lights and hoped that the event would be held annually.

“The set up has really transformed this place, from nothing into something,” he opined.

Another attraction, the forest projection mapping had also fascinated visitors as it offered a kaleidoscopic visual of nature using trees as the canvas.

Dalila said the projection mapping was projected nightly for 10 days at 8.30pm, 9.30pm and 10.30pm.

“The images project motifs of local culture which are embedded into a story.

“This event is purposely meant to attract locals and their families to walk around and to kick-off the upcoming Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF),” she pointed out.

When asked about the traffic congestion, Dalila said she welcomed any suggestion and comment and is determined to sort out such problems in future.

“I do notice that the event has caused traffic congestion at the roundabout here. If we have the opportunity to organise this event again next year, I will figure out the best way to solve and

improvement it,” she said.
