MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) has identified three locations in the city for this year’s Ramadan bazaars.

These locations are at Bandar Baru Permyjaya at the parking place near Bank Rakyat Office; MYY Mall at Lutong and Taman Tunku Commercial Centre.

This was disclosed by the city council in a press statement today.

However, all the Ramadan stalls can only trade from April 12 to May 12 subject to the terms and conditions as well as the standard operating procedures (SOPs) laid down by the authorities concerned.

On March 25, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) permitted the setting up of the Ramadan bazaar throughout the state subject to conditions and SOPs imposed.

“Since Miri City is still under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ramadan bazaar will be carried out on a restricted scale with limited number of traders, stalls and public patronising them at any one time,” the statement said.

The Ramadan bazaar will be managed and supervised by MCC together with its co-organiser namely, Persatuan Usahawan Anak Sarawak.

Before trading, those interested to trade should submit their applications to MCC and undergo the RT-PCR test (with negative results for Covid-19); typhoid Injection and obtain a certificate for having attended a food handler course.

The applicants will be limited to a maximum number of three persons including the operator of each stall.

For further information and details, contact the coorganiser, Persatuan Usahawan Anak Sarawak, by phone or Whatsapp to 6019 830 7356.

At the Ramadan bazaar sites, the council and its co-organiser will ensure there will be entry and exit points for every Ramadan bazaar; personnel from co-organiser will be stationed at the entry points to maintain MySejahtera check-in or manual registration, temperature screening, oversee the wearing of face masks and regulate the number of customers entering the bazaar and ensure social-distancing of at least one metre is observed.

Customers will queue up at each stall and food should be prepared at home or at the operators’ work places. No cooking is allowed at the Ramadan bazaar to maintain certain distances between the stall and customers.

Customers are not allowed to touch any food on display.

The operators or workers will hand over the food to the customers; the council will suspend any traders from trading if they contravene any of the council’s terms and conditions and the SOPs imposed.

Traders are reminded to comply with any other SOPs laid down by SDMC, MDMC and the council.
