KUCHING: The Ramadan month this year is more meaningful with the holding of Ramadan bazaars after a two-year lapse because of the COVID-19 pandemic, said Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Utilities) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
“With the slow progression to normal life following the nation’s transition to the endemic phase beginning April 1, it has opened up opportunities for the people to hold community activities, including the organisation of Ramadan bazaars in the state,” he said.
He said this while representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in conjunction with the launching of the Kuching City South Council (MBKS) Ramadan Bazaar 2022 at the Stutong Community Market car park, near here yesterday.
He added that everyone involved especially traders are reminded to constantly comply with the SOPs and maintain good hygiene as well as display proper guidelines at their stalls for the convenience of all.
“At the same time, social distancing should also be practised and most importantly the use of face mask. There are also other SOPs that we need to adhere to,” he said.
Abdul Rahman hoped that the organisation of the bazaar this year could create a community atmosphere not only within the MBKS jurisdiction but also at other council bazaars such as the bazaar by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and throughout the state.
“We are proud that the city of Kuching has been given recognition not only at the national level but also internationally, as a City of Unity and City of Gastronomy.
“There are many more recognitions given to the city of Kuching which is administered by DBKU and MBKS,” he said.
Also present were MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and MBKS Ramadan Bazaar 2022 Organising Chairman Abdul Baderi Sahmat.
