MIRI: Pustaka Miri is organising a Ramadan virtual talk to be held on May 22.

The talk will be given by Imam Mohamed Magid, executive director of All Dulles Area Muslim Society and former president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).

Schools and higher education institutions have been forced by the Covid-19 pandemic to use alternative means to educate students including virtual platforms, so Pustaka Miri has done likewise.

Entitled ‘Community Resilience’, the talk will cover ideas of giving back to the community during the current national crisis.

Scheduled for 9.30am Malaysian time it will be live on www.facebook.com/usembassykl and moderated by the founder-director of Crescent Collective, Mahdar Tahir.

Magid has a long history of commitment to public service through various organisations such as ‘The Peaceful Families Project’.

He also co-authored three books and has helped train Imams and other religious leaders, domestically and internationally, on the issue of violence against women.

He is a strong advocate for minority religious rights around the world and has written for the Washington Post and Huffington Post, and was profiled in Time Magazine and Wall Street Journal.

Magid is also the recipient of the Washingtonian of the Year 2009 and Human Rights Award 2005 from Fairfax County.
