SIBU: Police have detained two men on suspicion of raping two minors in two separate cases recently.

Acting district police chief, Supt Collin Babat when contacted, confirmed that the suspects, aged 30 and 60 years, were arrested by the district’s Criminal Investigation Deparrtment (CID).

Two investigation papers were opened under Section 376 of the Penal Code within a week involving two 14-year-old victims, one of whom is pregnant.

“The first case involving the elderly suspect, is believed to have taken place in December last year.

“This was a follow-up to the police report lodged on Apr 1 by the victim’s parents after finding out that their daughter is pregnant,” he said.

Collin said the suspect is believed to have taken the opportunity to commit the heinous act when the victim’s family members were not at home in Lebaan, Batang Igan.

He added that it was only noticed by the victim’s parents when their daughter was acting in a strange behaviour and had physical changes before she was taken to the hospital for a medical examination.
