BINTULU: A total of 67 agar turtle eggs were found at Golden Beach, Similajau National Park, here today.

Bintulu Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) acting manager Nickson Joseph Robi said in a statement that the discovery was very special following the last turtle of the species to lay eggs on that beach, about 22 years ago.

Eggs of agar turtles found at Golden Beach, Similajau National Park.

He said the eggs found at 12 noon today would be taken to the Similajau National Park turtle hatching for at least two months and are expected to hatch next September.

Nickson added, prior to the discovery of the eggs, the SFC delegation with the media in conjunction with the D’ Drift 2022 programme found prints of the turtle foot from the sea to the coast of the national park.

Work to detect a ‘real’ turtle nest, then, was done by inspecting the suspected turtle nest.

However, the process took a while as agar turtles usually build many nests (some as fake nests) to confuse predators.

Upon completion, 65 eggs were brought for the incubation process while two of them were broken.
