KUCHING: The enforcement authorities are cordoning off identified rat trails at the country’s borders in an effort to block any illegal entry.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this was to prevent imported Covid-19 cases from coming into the country.
“Our worry now is the entry of foreigners and illegals. For foreigners, we are already refusing entry to them as the borders are closed.
“We are concerned about illegals that might encroach our border through rat trails that are available across the country,” he told a daily press conference in Putrajaya yesterday.
Ismail Sabri said the enforcement had identified the rat trails and was fortifying security in Peninsular Malaysia’s west coast, the coast of Sabah and the border entries throughout Sarawak.
“All the enforcement agencies are involved to ensure that we can contain the entry of illegals through these rat trails,” he said.
Ismail Sabri added 84 individuals had been detained for encroaching into the country using rat trails since the movement control order (MCO) came into effect.
