KUCHING: An own goal shattered Kuching FA’s hopes of bringing home at least one point from their second Premier League match after losing 1-2 to Kelantan United FC at the Sultan Muhammad IV Friday’s night.

Kuching FA started the match on a positive note when team captain Rafiezan Razali took the lead in the early 18th minute.

However, Kuching FA’s joy was shortlived when Kelantan United’s Alfusainey Gassama scored the equaliser in the 25th minute to end the first half in a 1-1 draw.

As both teams doubled their effort in the second half in search for more goals, Kuching FA defender Razieman Razali mistakenly scored an own goal in the 55th minute to give Kelantan United a 2-1 lead.

Kuching FA assistant coach Ideris Untong said the goal was the result of a misunderstanding in front of the goalmouth following a freekick taken by Kelantan United.

Ideris said it was a balanced affair with both teams getting equal chances at ball possession.

“However, our strikers, especially Leonardo Passos Alves, Joseph Kallang Tie and Hudson Dias De Jesus failed in their finishing,” he said.

Nevertheless, Ideris said it was a good game and praised the players for their high
fighting spirit until the final whistle.

Kuching FA fielded all their foreign imports including Japanese Yuki Tanigawa and Yuta Suzuki.

Other players in the first eleven were Mohd Iqbal Mohd Suhimi, Rames Lai Ban Huat, Tommy Mawat Bada and Mazwandi Zekeria.
