Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching, Most Reverend Simon Poh.

KUCHING:  Roman Catholic churches here resumed services last Saturday (Aug 15) following the declaration of the state as a Covid-19 green zone last week.

Archbishop of Kuching Rev Fr Simon Poh said all parishioners complied with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the reopening of churches.

He added the service team particularly those handling the temperature screening, ushers, and disinfection team had been preparing for the reopening.

“We are still maintaining the 100-person limit for the   attendees as this is just the first weekend, we are resuming masses,” he said when contacted on Sunday (Aug 16).

Poh said for the upcoming weekends, all Roman Catholic churches would open for Sunday masses.

He explained that the churches would be collecting donations for the Beirut disaster relief work during the weekend masses.

“Our donations will be sent together with the collections from all the Roman Catholic churches in the country.

“It is always important for Christians to be ready to give a helping hand. Even when we are struggling with funding, we can always support those who are suffering and in greater need.
