KUCHING: Kampung Selang residents have been reminded to work hard and realise the potential of their village.
Assistant Utilities Minister (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the village had a wealth of natural products that residents could make use of to improve their economy.
“If possible, locals must explore the potential of these natural products. We can generate income through the natural resources available around the village.”
He said this after performing Friday prayers at Darul Hasanah Mosque, Kampung Selang Ulu yesterday.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU), explained that residents could conduct businesses in seafood and agriculture.
“Most of the villagers work in agriculture and catch seafood as a source of income. Perhaps agricultural and marine products can be widely marketed to foreign markets,” he said.
He added that the village also had the potential to be used as a location for extreme sports such as triathlon involving cycling, running and kayaking.
“I believe that facilities for extreme sports can be developed in this village to increase visitors,” he explained.
