KUCHING: Vaccines can reduce the adverse complications of Covid-19, thus it is vital to ensure that we are all vaccinated.

The type of vaccine is not important – what is important is achieving herd immunity to reduce Covid-19 infections in our community.

Here are the experiences of some vaccine recipients. Hopefully, their stories will raise awareness and get those yet to register to do so.

Nur Aliya Azman

Nur Aliya Azman, who received her first dose of the Sinovac vaccine on June 16, said she only experienced side effects such as pain in her arm, tiredness, and was often hungry after a few hours.

“The staff at the Kozi Square vaccination centre (PPV) were a big help. They explained the vaccination procedure clearly as I’m asthmatic.

“Before vaccination, I also searched for information and the procedures at PPVs on social media sites of the Information Department and the Ministry of Health,” said the 27-year-old, who will receive her second dose on July 7.

Faidzul Ibrahim

Faidzul Ibrahim, 43, said he had been informed of his vaccination appointment two weeks earlier through a short message system (SMS) and the MySejahtera app.

“In the SMS (and MySejahtera), apart from stating the time and date, they also stated the type of vaccine I will be receiving.

“I received the AstraZeneca vaccine at the Borneo Commercial Centre Kuching PPV on June 15. On the first day, I felt a bit dizzy and had difficulty sleeping at night.

“The next day, I had a fever and pain in the knee joints and shoulder (where I was injected) but on the third day, I gradually recovered,” he said, adding that the appointment for his second dose is 21 days after the first.

Ahmad Dawi

For a 63-year-old retiree, Ahmad Dawi, who received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on June 21 at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) PPV, he was thankful to get his first dose as the elderly like him are in the high-risk group.

He received his vaccination appointment through Sarawak General Hospital.

“I feel comfortable getting vaccinated at SGH PPV because I don’t have to wait long.

“After receiving the injection, I had a fever, my hand felt a little numb and my body felt weak. However, it was only for a few days,” he said, adding that he would receive the second dose on July 12.
