KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Magistrates’ Court here fined a local man RM5,000 for reckless and dangerous driving last Friday.
Magistrate Afidah Abdul Rahman meted out the fine on the 38-year-old motorist who was charged under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the accused was charged with reckless and dangerous driving which resulted in an accident at KM34, Jalan Kota Samarahan-Sadong Jaya on Dec 24, 2017.
The accused was found driving his car and not paying attention on the road until his car went out of control and collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, causing the motorcyclist to sustain serious injuries.
In the same courtroom, a 35-year-old man pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently fined RM2,000.
He was arrested for drink driving at Jalan Kuching-Samarahan Expressway on Sept 18 this year.
