BAU: The Siniawan Country Music Festival (SCMF) 2019 this year recorded the biggest crowd with 20,000 country music lovers attending the festival.
The fourth edition of the festival themed ‘Take me home to Siniawan Country Music Festival 2019’ at the ‘cowboy town’ of Siniawan started last Friday and ended on Sunday night with a big bang.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu was invited to officiate at the closing ceremony on Sunday night.
“The closing of tonight’s festival is not the end, but the start to a bigger festival.
“The Sarawak government’s commitment is to help to promote SCMF into a bigger event,” he said.
Rentap also urged the Bau community to continue preserving the rich historical heritage in Siniawan to attract more visitors to the town.
“It is hope that cleanliness within this area will also be maintained. And next year, maybe the event organisers and Miro Simuh (Serembu assemblyman and SCMF 2019 patron) can work with the Bau District Council to have more recycling bins placed here and also do away with using plastic bags or plastic takeaways,” he said.
He then congratulated Miro and his team on the success of the event which received an overwhelming response.
Meanwhile, Miro said the festival on Saturday night was attended by 8,000 people.
“I can proudly say this is the one of biggest country festivals in Malaysia. And the most amazing thing to see is that people of all walks of life can come together to enjoy the good music and food,” he said.
He added the festival was indeed a celebration of unity.
“I want to thank everybody and also the state government for its efforts to support this festival.
“With such support, our dream is to see SCMF feature country music artists from Nashville, USA in the future,” he added.
SCMF 2019 featured 12 performers from Kuching, Betong, Miri, Kota Kinabalu, Melaka, Penang and Singapore.
