Red Crescent virtual run opens for registration

KUCHING: In observance of the World Blood Donor Day (WBDD), the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Society Kuching District is organising a virtual run to be held on June 14.

The run open for registration today and branch chairman Datuk Dr Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zain officiated at the event at the Red Crescent Kuching Headquarters.

Also present  were MRC Society Kuching District project chairman John Jong; MRC Society Kuching District vice chairman Titus Chuo; MRC Society Kuching District volunteerism officer Desmond Chew; and MRC Society Kuching District treasurer Tan Woei Jong.

Dr Abang Abdul Rauf explained that the virtual run entitled, “Run to Save Lives 2.0”, aimed to raise funds for the costs of the blood donor recruitment service of the society as well as the cost of certificates for blood donors.

“This run also aims to raise public awareness on the importance of blood donations and promote an easy sport for good health.

“As the blood donor recruitment service is one of our society’s main core services to our community, we would like to raise public awareness on the need for safe blood that can save lives.

“We also want to thank all blood donors for being unselfish in donating their blood to save so many lives,” added Dr Abang Abdul Rauf.

He explained those interested in joining the run could register at https://qrgo.page.link/1EsVp with a registration fee of only RM10 per participant paid via Sarawak Pay or directly to the society’s Public Bank account 3112-8858-09.

“We also welcome voluntary donations of any amount as our society aims to raise a total of RM30,000 from this   event.

“The money we raise will be fully used to support our blood donation recruitment service,” he revealed.

Dr Abang Abdul Rauf explained that the virtual run accumulated record of walking or running was up to 14.6 kilometres, a memorial number in remembrance of the yearly date of WBDD.

“Participants need to accumulate their walking and running records done from June 1 to June 30 either via treadmill screen records or hand wear speedometer screenshots as proofs.

“They need to submit the screenshots by July 5 at 5pm,” he said.

Dr Abang Abdul Rauf added that E-certificates would be issued to all qualified participants by June 15 through their emails.

“We hope supporters of Red Crescent will give us the utmost support to make this Virtual Run a success,” he expressed.

He also revealed the society distributed a total of 32 food aid packages to the disabled from the Sarawak Organisation of the Disabled here today.
