MIRI: Members of the Welfare, Health and Community Sub-Committee of Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Branch recently visited two families with poor socio-economic background at Tudan Desaras.

During the visit, chairman of the sub-committee, Dr Uma Devi delivered a short talk on the dangers of plastics, importance of cleanliness and healthy food to educate the family members.

The families were also briefed on services provided by the Miri City Council and the approach for highlighting related issues to the council by Dayang Mariamah from MCC.

The visitors also brought along stainless-steel food containers to be distributed to the two families as part of the exercise to stress on the dangers of plastic containers.

The stainless-steel food containers were donated by anonymous donors. Other items including food baskets, baby pampers and clothing were also distributed to the families.

The MRC said similar visits will be organised from time to time and hoped more volunteers would come forward and join them to make the community a better place.
