KAPIT: Business owners, including small and medium businesses in the state are advised to register their businesses under the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), one of the agencies under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

Its Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that this is to enable all eligible business owners to enjoy the facilities and incentives provided by the federal government.

“I understand and listen to the complaints of some groups of businesses in the state that have expressed their concerns because they cannot enjoy the benefits and incentives for businesses provided by the federal government.

“When we examine this issue more in depth, we found that this is due to their failure to register their business with SSM.

“This has caused the business community to be left out of the initiative which is implemented automatically based on SSM’s business database,” he said.

Nanta was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Youth Consumerism Advocacy Carnival with KPDNHEP in Kapit Town Square on Saturday (Nov 27) night.

He also said that he understood the situation in Sarawak where business owners could only register their businesses with the state government through the district councils and local authorities in their respective areas.

“I recommend that they still register with SSM because most business assistance is channeled to those who are eligible, such as the B40 and M40 groups based on business databases registered with SSM,” he said.

Meanwhile, the carnival which was held for two days starting Nov 26, was jointly organised by KPDNHEP and the Kapit District Office in collaboration with SSM, the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO) and the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC).

This inaugural programme aims to provide greater exposure on consumer and business information to the people, particularly the youth.

Apart from the ministry’s agencies, the involvement of outside companies in the carnival has also attracted various groups to venture into business.

“I hope that this programme has succeeded in opening the minds of the people here and further providing them with accurate information on the government assistance available if they want to venture into business.

“We do not want anyone to be left behind and this is, of course, in line with the aspirations of the Malaysian Family inspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob,” he said.
