KUCHING: Members of the public are urged to assist their parents who do not have their own smartphones to register for the Covid-19 vaccination.

State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing said this could be done through the MySejahtera application, which has been updated.

“Those who live in rural areas or outside the city areas can register at nearby District Offices through their village chiefs, tribe leaders, heads of households and village committees.

“Those who are in the urban areas but do not have MySejahtera accounts can also register at the nearest government clinics,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Chin said a digital immunisation certificate would be automatically issued once the recipients had received all the doses.

“As for those who do not have a My Sejahtera account, a reminder will be made through appointment cards as well as phone calls.”

The immunisation programme is voluntary and free for all eligible Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above.

Dr Chin said the Covid-19 Immunisation Programme would be conducted in three phases.

For Phase One, the immunisation is for frontline health workers including those from the private sector, followed by frontline staff from other agencies.

Phase Two involves senior citizens above 60 years old and Malaysians who have comorbidities, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Under Phase Three, immunisation will be given to all eligible citizens in Sarawak aged 18 and above.

All phases of the immunisation will be done at government health facilities and community halls designated as vaccination centres including selected private health facilities and senior citizen institutes.

The immunisation programme aims to protect the country’s population, especially in Sarawak, who are at risk of Covid-19 deaths and complications.

It also aims to form a group protection in the population and keep the economy sector operating as well as control the infections and lower the risk of virus transmission among the population, especially in Sarawak.

“Therefore, the State Health Department once again hopes that the public will immediately download the MySejahtera application and activate it or contact any nearby health clinic for registration,” said Dr Chin.

“The public are advised not to be easily influenced by unauthentic information about the Covid-19 vaccine and keep in touch with the health department for accurate and right information,” he added.

The State Health Department has provided a hotline for the public to obtain any further information related to the programme including the vaccine.

The hotline, which is operational from today, can be reached 082-473275/473276/473304/473320 or 473345.
