KUCHING:  A new community-based rehabilitation (CBR) centre will be set up in Lundu with the old Pakma Gading CBR being relocated to a new site.

The project is being tendered out and will be located next to the VVIP rest house in Lundu.

Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu said a total of RM1.5 million was allocated to construct the new building and expressed hope that it will benefit special needs children (OKU) with better learning facilities.

“This shows that the Sarawak government is committed to lend their support and help towards the special needs group,” she said when met during her visit to the new CBR site on Wednesday (June 24).

Pakma Gading CBR was formed in 2012 with a contribution of RM10,000 each from the then Chief Minister of Sarawak and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas).

Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati) and Muslim Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (Perkim) also contributed RM2,500 each to the project.
