KUCHING: The People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) is one of the frontline forces that helps prevent the transmission of Covid-19.

Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said Rela plays a significant role, especially in maintaining and controlling the safety of villages during the movement control order (MCO), conditional movement control order (CMCO) and recovery movement control order (RMCO) periods.

“The Rela team has always ensured that villages are kept safe from unwanted things like theft, fighting, drug trafficking, intrusion of undocumented migrants (Pati) and others.

“They also do patrols every night, including the weekends. Rela has worked with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to safeguard villages by implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” he said at a handover ceremony of the Annual Donation Handover to the platoon of Muara Tebas Rela on Monday.

Meanwhile, Muara Tebas Rela platoon chief Joli Kadir thanked Dr Hazland for the fund to ensure that Rela patrol activities continue during the RMCO period.

“He not only encourages the members of Kampung Muara Tebas Rela, but also financially helps to ensure that the Rela team moves and regulates the safety around Kampung Muara Tebas,” he said.
