SIBU: People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) on Thursday night launched a patrol unit in Bawang Assan, near Sibu. Each team comprises eight members who would carry out their patrol by riding motorcycles and doing walkabout at the patrol area from 8pm to 4am.

Meanwhile Rancangan Sibu 1 (RS1) has sponsored a total of five canopies, 10 units of safety jackets, 10 units of torchlight and allowance to Rela patrolling units of Bawang Assan.

All the sponsored items were handed over by chairman of RS1 Dato Andrew Wong who is also United People’s Party (UPP) potential candidate for Sibu parliamentary seat.

Wong therefore stressed that the Rela members should always priotise integrity and professionalism while carrying out their duties. “Rela members must carry out their duties very well and taking care of their own safety and obeying the rules while carrying out their duties,” he said.

Wong therefore hoped that the patrol programme would be able to reduce the crime rate in the area involved.
