SPAOH: Members of the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) are urged to continue to uphold the movement’s role in enhancing peace and security in the country.

Sarawak Rela director Rini Tupong said the security aspects have to start from home by ensuring that the members’ families are free from any crime cases.

“This is because of public concern over crime activities. If we look at the society today, some crime cases although considered petty are believed to be due to lack of parents’ supervision.

“I don’t want this to happen among our members and their family members,” Rini said when he officiated at the closing ceremony of the Fifth Rela Basic Course 2019 at Bukit Saban Camp here, yesterday.

The 5-day course was attended by 81 Rela members from Betong, Lubuk Antu and Sri Aman.

He also urged every Rela member to look after their family members well and advised them not to get involved in unhealthy activities.

Rini also cautioned Rela members not to abuse their power when carrying out their duties but to uphold the good image of the movement.

“Every member must be disciplined and have a positive attitude,” he said.
