BINTULU: The involvement of Rela members in the security of the state’s borders shows the government’s confidence in and recognition the movement as the second line of national security.
Rela Malaysia deputy director-general (operations) Kamarudin Mohd Rapig said Rela members on duty at the borders possess a high degree of discipline and work with dedication and sincerity.
“For them, serving at the borders gives them the chance to serve the country in the true spirit of volunteerism,” said Kamarudin at the 47th Rela Anniversary celebration at Esplanade Square today.
Kamarudin also spoke on Rela’s 5K1P concept of Security, Wellbeing, Harmony, Union and Unity.
According to him, over the past five decades, Rela has grown to become an institution that strives to defend the people’s aspirations while supporting the country’s development efforts and becoming one of the country’s important defense elements.
“Starting from the Home Guard team, which mobilised volunteers across the country to help the government deal with the threats of communist, now this team has developed into a department that manages volunteer workforce of over 3.1 million members,” added Kamarudin.
Kamarudin was accompanied at the event by Sarawak Rela director Rini Tupong.
