Relevant agencies instructed to resolve flood woes

MIRI: Government agencies and housing developers are advised to find a solution to the flood problem that are being faced by local residents especially during the monsoon season.

Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said he has given instructions to relevant agencies including the Miri Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Miri Public Works Department (PWD), Miri Land and Survey Department (LANDAS) and the Miri City Council (MCC) to find a solution in the near future to deal with the flood problem.

“I want this problem to be given a temporary solution to face the monsoon season.

“I suggest that all agencies must give their priority in taking preventive measures to this flood problem,” he said when met by the media after visiting the affected area at Jalan Cahaya 1B, Taman Lopeng Baru here, recently.

Meanwhile, Lee who is also the Senadin assemblyman requested that housing developers play a role in avoiding flooding in their development areas.

“All housing developers need to ensure that the water drainage system is in good condition so that it does not become the cause of flooding in the area,” he added.

Meanwhile, on another development, he informed that the Sarawak government has also approved an application to widen Jalan Cahaya Utama to a two-way dual carriageway in order to ease the congestion that often occurs in the area around Miri Hospital, Lopeng and Padang Kerbau.
