Relevant agencies urged to solve ‘Ghost Towers’ issues

MUKAH: The relevant agencies are urged to take immediate action on issues pertaining to the non-functioning communication towers in Bekakong, ​​Tanjong Manis.

According to Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, the weak telecommunications line due to these issues had caused concern among residents.

Hence, the Semop assemblyman hoped that the agencies involved will take the issue seriously before more ‘Ghost Towers’ are identified in Sarawak.

“We don’t want the term ‘Ghost Tower’ to happen in many places in Sarawak. This situation will disturb the residents. Lately, their telephone lines have been weak,” he said.

He said this during a working visit to the communication tower at Rumah Wun Iring, Bekakong on Friday (April 7) following complaints from the residents.

Abdullah also said the community, especially those in the rural areas understands and appreciates the role of digital communication and the internet in their various daily affairs.

“This includes the usage of mobile phones for communication and obtaining various information and news,” he said.

It is understood that the communication tower in Bekakong is still not working since its completion last year.

Therefore, more than 1,000 residents of Bekakong hope that the relevant authority can solve this problem soon as they need to travel to Jalan Serdeng-Tanjong Manis to get telephone and internet line.
